I was shocked. They all said that they wanted to get me something special to remember them by, and that they were going to miss me so much. They also joked that it could be seen as a bribe to get me to stay, and I told them that I’d come back in a heartbeat if things ever worked out. We ended by having a great lunch – shrimp cocktail, wraps, homemade pudding, cupcakes, salads, homemade mango salsa, and the most delicious cranberry-pecan coleslaw that I have ever had (and I’m not a fan of coleslaw, so it says a lot when I say that this was my favorite dish). I loved, loved, loved working there and am so sad to be leaving. They were such an amazing bunch, and I can only hope that my next unit is half as great as this one was.
Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend
July 24, 2009
I know that I said that it would be several days before I posted again, but I really need to share about my last day at work. Before I left this morning, Chris asked if I thought I would get emotional today, and I think I said something like, “Nah, I’ll be fine!”. Yeah, right. I was fine up until about 20 minutes before I had to leave, and then I cracked. My nose started to turn red, my eyes were getting tingly, my lips were starting to quiver at the corners – I knew it was not going to go well, and it didn’t. I ended up crying and basically turning into a big soggy mess. Everyone was so sweet, and I’m really going to miss it there. It’s one thing to leave a job when you have something even better or more exciting lined up. It’s completely different when you leave a job that you love so that you can follow your husband to the Midwest, where you don’t have any employment lined up. Thank goodness I love him!
I will say that I was very surprised by my going-away party and gift. I was minding my own business, sitting in the nurses’ station, when my coworkers came together and brought in a gift bag. Everyone – the nursing assistants, nurses, secretary, social workers, residents, and physicians – gathered around. I could tell that it was a jewelery bag, but I figured that maybe it was an engraved pen or something like that. I was wrong – they got me a diamond bracelet. As in, a bracelet with diamonds… as in, see below…
Oh what a sweet send-off! I hope you can find such a great group of people at your next job.
