My husband is a HUGE Gamecocks fan. He did the whole kiddie summer camp, had pictures taken with the coach and on the field, went to the games… his blood is basically garnet + black. And it’s not just him – his whole family goes crazy over that team. I was lucky enough to marry into that craziness, and have grown to really enjoy SEC football 🙂
Chris’ parents always get 4 season tickets, and they love to invite family to attend with them. It’s also nice that my brother- and sister-in-law have student tickets. So going to a game just isn’t about watching football – it’s about being with family and seeing loved ones.
Last year we went to the USC vs. Clemson game, which was my first time at Williams-Brice. I was impressed. The fans, the stadium, the field, the team, being with family – it was such a great time, and I’ve wanted to go back ever since. I wasn’t sure if we’d be able to attend a game this year, but just a few days ago we decided we’d fly down for the USC/GA game. We’ll get into JAX on September 11th (Chris’ parents live in St. Simons Island, GA, which is about 1 hr 20 mins north of there) then head back to Boston on 09/14. It’ll be a quick trip, but enough time to see family & go to the game.
In addition to having season tickets, Chris’ parents have a 3-bedroom condo at The Gates at Williams-Brice (current home to my lovely brother- and sister-in-law). It is basically right next door to the stadium, and on game days there is a big tailgate party with food in the outdoor pool/patio area. Their condo looks directly onto the stadium, so we can bring food back up and just hang out on the balcony before game time. Once it gets a bit closer to kick-off, we all walk across the tracks to the stadium, past the cockabooses, eventually getting to our seats. And from our seats, this is the view…
Yes, I am definitely look forward to it 🙂
give me a call when you come in town. we’re hosting another couple at our house for the georgia game and i’d love to catch up with you!
