I have a new favorite ice cream, and it is Hilliard’s Chocolate Grand Marnier. Let me tell you about it…
Chris and I were out driving last night – I was bored and wanted to see more of our new town.
While on the drive, we went by a candy shop that I didn’t even see. Chris, however, has eagle eyes when it comes to anything related to sweets, so he naturally spotted it. Since I’d missed it, we had to turn around and drive by again so that I could get a look. The name of the place was “Hilliard’s Confections” and it looked so cute! I told Chris that we had to go there – maybe for dessert after dinner tomorrow night.
When we got back home, I went online and did a search for the store and found their website. I read up about the history of the place – turns out, it’s 84 years old and something of a local landmark. Then, I saw the chocolates. Oh. my. goodness. Everything looked so delectable! I couldn’t wait till the next evening!
We went by tonight after dinner and browsed through the shop. It offered a lot of different candies, fudges, brownies, ice cream, cold drinks… basically anything you can think of that would make your mouth water. They also sold little curios and home decor items, as well as cards (I got a cute one for my sister’s upcoming birthday).
Chris went right to the bulk candy section. For $2.00 per 1/4 lb, you can mix and match to your heart’s delight. I can’t remember everything he got, but I do know that he got some mini malted milk balls, regular malted milk balls, cookies and cream chocolate, mint malt balls, bridge mix, chocolate covered peanuts, and some other stuff. Here is a picture of the inside of the bag.
Doesn’t that look yummy? But that wasn’t even the half of it. Chris also wanted to try their truffles. He got a chocolate chip and a hazelnut one. Don’t they look good?
Finally, we headed over to the ice cream counter for dessert. I got the fat-free Kahlua frozen yogurt, which was fabulous.
Chris got the Chocolate Grand Marnier Ice Cream. I have to admit, I ate more of his ice cream than I did of my own! It was soooo good. It had chunks of their very own homemade Grand Marnier truffles mixed into the chocolate ice cream. If you are ever in the area, you have to try it. Even Chris, who isn’t much of an ice cream fan, had this to say about it, “It wasn’t just that it was good ice cream – it was elegant”. I agree.
Again, be sure to check out their website. They do ship across the US, so if something sounds good, you can probably get it sent straight to your door 🙂
yum yum!!!!
