I love vanilla chai – for those of you who have not had it, imagine drinking pumpkin pie from a cup. It is spicy, flavorful, and tastes good hot or cold. I recently found a can of vanilla chai mix at Sam’s Club, and was a bit reluctant to try it, I’ll admit. I’ve tried some mixes in the past and haven’t been impressed (Target has one that is particularly distasteful, in my opinion).
Anyway, I decided to get it because they had a recipe for a frozen vanilla chai, and it has been kind of hot and humid here in Indiana lately. So, I bought it, took it home, and tried it for the first time today. It is SO good. I know, I’m weird to get excited about a frozen drink, but who cares?!
To show you just how yummy it is, I took the following picture. It actually makes more than this (the cup pictured was nearly overflowing before I started drinking) and is not high calorie/high fat. It’s also a lot cheaper than buying one at a coffee shop, and I am all about saving money. And, it is super-easy to make – 6 oz cold water or milk (water tastes just as good), 2 scoops of mix, and 1 1/2 C of ice, then blend to slushy perfection 🙂
Addendum (06-10-08) – I have decided that from now on, I’m going to have to buy the decaf version. I normally don’t drink any caffeine, so this stuff kept me up half the night!
I also love vanilla chai. I remember the first time I had it I couldn’t believe that you could get the yumminess of pumpkin pie in a cup. Rocked my world. Anyway, what brand is the chai you bought? Costco carried a brand over the holidays that tasted just like the stuff at the coffee shops. (I can’t remember what it is now, but if I remember I will let you know.) Unfortunately I think Scotland has not really discovered chai tea yet. I can’t even buy the chai tea bags here.
I wish I could visit! Right now, no vacations till I’m done with school and we both have jobs 🙂
Sounds yummy!!! I to never drank coffee until my children were born. Now coffee is becoming something to enjoy around one in the afternoon when I become sleepy. When are you coming to visit?
